ORIGINAL MOLLY HATCHET GUITARIST DEAD

Duane Roland, one of the founding members of Molly Hatchet, has died at age 53. A message titled "In Memory Of Duane Roland" on the band's myspace page reads, "We are shocked and saddened to learn that our friend, former bandmate, and brother Duane Roland has passed away.

"Duane was an original member of Molly Hatchet and he gave 15 years of his life in devotion to the band. We will miss you Duane. Give (original singer) Danny (Joe Brown) a hug from all of us in the Molly Hatchet family. Our deepest condolences to Duane's family, friends, bandmates, and fans. Prayers to all."

There's no further information on where it happened, or what the cause of death was.

Roland was with Molly Hatchet from the band's inception in 1976 all the way through to 1991. In recent years, he had played with the Southern Rock All-Stars, which also included fellow Hatchet alumni Dave Hlubek and Jimmy Farrar, and Blackfoot drummer Jackson Spires.

Molly Hatchet's next show is Friday (June 23rd) in Macon, Georgia. There's no word yet on whether the band will do anything special to honor Roland.
