THE REVIEW by Roberto Cosentino
(also appeared in the WWW Board on the Official Site)
Dario Mollo is a real guitar master and he plays guitar in strong hard-rock style, with a mix of melodic symphony. The other players play in a very professional way, and all the work takes vital strenght from the master of voice, Glenn Hughes. His voice is an unbelievable mix of power and tenderness that rides like the wind together with the guitar of Dario Mollo. Maybe this is one of the best work of Glenn Hughes of all times (it's only my personal opinion, but I am sure of this).
Anyway here is also a short comment about the songs:
SENSITIVE
The beginning is light, with tipical Hughes introduction, then follows a guitar riff like a horse ride with Glenn's voice very bluesly, and goes in a perfect "From now on" style.
DISCONNECTED
Very hard way, it begins in a Sabbath style, then the voice and the guitar go together, like two twisted snakes. The guitar solo it's a melodic situation with the voice that breaks guitar in the middle. The final episode is a real storm with Glenn at maximum power, and drums and bass guitar look like as they come out from the cage of crazy snakes.
GOLDEN ONE (GABI'S SONG)
The title is enough !! It's a ballad dedicated to Gabrielle, I think. Do you remember the first album of Brazen Abbot ??? Or also Billy Liesegang album with Glenn ???? well, this is a song I can't explain. Here comes out the heart of Glenn. He never sang in this way before. It's a very, very emotioning situation. All together, until the last scream, until the last guitar riff; then the end, with Glenn who comes back to sensual voice.
"The golden one" "stay with me"!!!!!
SPUN IN LOST WAGES
very stunning song. Powerful performance of all musicians. It's song without pauses. Here you can listen Blackmore influences in guitar playing (don't worry, Dario, just influences...)rides like the wind from the beginning to the end.
KEEP IT TO YOURSELF
Yes, it's a funky voice with nice riff guitar. Glenn's vocal performance is like him. His vocal range is inimitable. I can remember some episodes from "Feel" album. The guitar solo reminds me an Eddie Van Halen style.
24
Acoustic guitar and voice, just for introducing, then I go into another world, I close my eyes and fly in the sky. "Goodbye 24" this is a beautiful sensation: just a few songs can give you these moments. "Goodbye 24" is a fantastic ballad in perfect Hughes style. I think here the guitar is at its maximum power.
JUST ANOTHER MONDAY
Drums and bass guitar in first raw. Another precious performance of the guitar and the voice, AOR style. As usual voice and guitar again are over the mountain (or over the hill?). Hey dario, where were you in the past years???
THE GYPSY (Deep Purple classic)
What about it??????? Any comment is unnecessary.
BLACK LEATHER
Just some little funky atmosphere, when music stops in some points. It's fast changes of speed by drums and guitar, with the voice that rides both of them.
VOODOO HILL
The title track. Keyboards introduction with harmonic voice. Here also the rhythm changes in a fast way. In the middle it seems to be in Arabian lands. Yet the guitar solo brings my mind in desert land. Glenn is very angry. Yeah, it's right, he's stuck in a Voodoo Hill!!!!
MATCH SONG (instrumental)
Unfortunately all the good things have a quick end. Light cigarette and listen only the guitar in first raw with the other instruments in the background. Light cigarette, light cigarette, light cigarette..........
